The man shot in an apparent road-rage incident in Midvale died Thursday after being taken off of life support.

Investigators, meanwhile, continued to follow numerous tips, some of them very promising.

Frank Saucedo, 43, was shot in the back of the head Tuesday night on Fort Union Boulevard near 700 East. He had been in extremely critical condition at Intermountain Medical Center since the incident and died Thursday evening shortly after being removed from life support, said hospital spokesman Jess Gomez.

"We are heartbroken from the loss of our father, brother and dear friend," said a statement released by Saucedo's family.

Saucedo was "trying to lead a good life" and was helping some friends go to the store when he was shot, the family stated.

The family called the shooting a "senseless road-rage incident" and hoped the person responsible would be brought to justice. Saucedo is survived by a young son named Cruz, according to the family.

Midvale police continued Thursday to look for a dark green, late 1990s model Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with an extended cab. Many citizens have been calling police with tips on green Toyota Tacomas spotted from Sandy to Morgan, Midvale Police Capt. Steve Shreeve said. One tip Thursday morning looked particularly promising, but Shreeve said it would take a couple of days to follow.

Saucedo, Morgan Taylor, 25, and Lacey Nielsen, 27, were pulling out of a Smith's Food and Drug parking lot near 7000 South and 1000 East just before 10 p.m. Tuesday onto Fort Union Boulevard. Taylor, who was driving, may have pulled out in front of the Tacoma.

Shreeve said the full story of what happened probably won't be known until the gunman is caught.

"It's not clear who cut who off or who started the aggressive action. All that is clear to us is how this aggressive action ended," he said. "We do know there were words exchanged."

Shreeve said Taylor told investigators the only thing he said to the Toyota driver was, "What is your problem?"

The Toyota driver fired a shot that shattered the back window of the car Saucedo was in and struck him in the back of the head.

Anyone with information on the gunman or the Tacoma can call Midvale police at 840-4000.
