SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A former New Mexico treasurer who testified against his successor in a federal corruption case was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison for racketeering.

The state charge Michael Montoya pleaded guilty to last year was filed after he admitted in federal court that he demanded kickbacks from investment advisers who helped arrange bids on certain investments. He also described how he received cash payments from securities dealers who offered bids for state investments.

His state sentence will run concurrently with a 40-month federal sentence for extortion that Montoya is to begin serving soon.
