DRAPER — It isn't your typical lost and found announcement.
Police are asking the public's help in finding a missing watch box. Inside the box are tens of thousands of dollars' worth of men's jewelry, including rings and cufflinks.
On Tuesday, a Draper man placed his green watch box on his car as he prepared to get in and then forgot about it, said Draper Police Chief Mac Connole. It wasn't until after the man had driven between Draper and Salt Lake City and stopped at several places, taking several roads, that he remembered the watch box.
But by then, it had fallen off and was gone.
The watch box is about 8 inches long, 6 inches wide and 4 inches deep, he said.
Police are hoping someone may have already found it and possibly even reported it to another police agency. Connole said the public should remember that if expensive jewelry is found and that person hangs onto it, it is considered "theft by finder," which in this case would be a felony because of the value of the items.
The owner is offering a reward for information leading to the recovery of his jewelry. Tips can be called into the Draper Police Department, 576-6300, or police dispatchers at 840-4000.
