As expected, Rowland Hall is well on its way to another 2A state golf title.
The Winged Lion, the defending state champions, were a model in team consistency and depth Monday in Round 1 on the Silver Course at Solider Hollow. Five Rowland Hall players shot in the 70s and the team's high score was an 80.
Heading into Tuesday's final round on the Gold Course the Winged Lion lead by a whopping 18 strokes over Beaver and 19 shots over South Summit.
Leading the charge for Rowland Hall was defending state medalist Carson Huiskamp at 74, with Joey Polychronis and Eric Hutchinson firing 76 each, and Quentin Morse and Nick Jobs posting a 78 each.
In the medalist battle, South Summit sophomore Taylor Haws cruised to a 2-under 70 for a four-shot lead over Huiskamp, Millard's Michael Louder and Richfield's Tyson Bliss who all shot 74. Six shots back at 76 are Polychronis, Hutchinson and Beaver's Tyler Davidson.
