PROVO — The NBA Development League approved the trade Tuesday of the Utah Flash's first selection in the 2008 NBA D-League Draft, small forward Denham Brown, to the Dakota Wizards for point guard Dontell Jefferson.

Jefferson, 6-4, 195, played in and started 33 games for the Wizards last season and averaged 39 minutes, 17 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5 assists. In two games against the Flash last season Jefferson, a University of Arkansas teammate of Utah Jazz guard Ronnie Brewer, averaged 21.5 points, 5 rebounds and 2.5 steals. He scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds in the inaugural Flash home game on Nov. 27 of last season.

Jefferson help guide the Wizards to a NBA D-League championship in 2006-07, averaging 23.4 minutes, 9.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He participated in training camp with the Los Angeles Clippers this year and with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2007-08.

We are obviously excited to get a player of Dontell's skills and experience, Flash head coach Brad Jones said. He is long and athletic and brings a new dimension to what we are trying to accomplish on both ends of the court. I really like the fact that he is a tenacious defender.

Jefferson will report to Flash training camp with his new teammates on Saturday.
