SPANISH VALLEY, San Juan County — Respiratory disease appears to have claimed the life of a 13-month-old child who died here Tuesday.
According to a statement from San Juan County Sheriff's office, the child's parents found the girl unconscious. An ambulance was called, but the girl died.
Police said the girl had struggled with croup, a respiratory disease that affects young children.
The state medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
