OGDEN — Police are searching for a man who stole a vehicle at gunpoint in Ogden, fled from officers and abandoned the car after a hit-and-run crash.

Police said the incident happened about 5 a.m. Friday as the victim was getting into his car in the 1500 block of Grant Avenue.

"The man pulled a handgun from his pocket ... and demanded his car," Ogden Police Lt. John Stubbs said Friday. "He struck (the victim) on the face with his gun, got in the car and drove away."

An officer spotted the stolen 2003 Chevrolet Malibu on 21st Street and attempted to follow it. The suspect fled by going down side-streets, police said.

"He did, however, come across a hit-and-run accident that had just occurred at 23rd and Monroe," Stubbs said.

The officer stopped to help accident victims, who suffered minor injuries. Police found the stolen vehicle a short time later abandoned.
