VOLLEYBALL: Utah State will open the WAC tournament as the fourth-seed in Honolulu, and play fifth-seeded San Jose State on Thursday. New Mexico State is the top seed in the tournament and will play the winner of the No. 8 Fresno State vs. No. 9 Louisiana Tech match. Utah State finished the regular season with an 11-16 overall record, including a 9-7 mark in the WAC.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Aggies announced the signing of three student-athletes for the 2009-10 season —guards Jenna Johnson, Ashley Mitchell and Devyn Christiansen. Christiansen was the Idaho 5A player of the year last season at Vallivue High in Caldwell. Johnson is a 5-9 guard from Wasilla, Alaska, where she averaging 17 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. She is the starting guard for Wasilla High School, the same basketball program Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin played for in high school.
Mitchell attends Long Beach Millikan High in California. The 5-8 guard averaged over 10 points, six rebounds, six assists, while shooting 54 percent from the field last season.
