MIDVALE — The City Council is poised to enact a moratorium on new food vending carts and other itinerant merchants during a meeting Tuesday night.

The council proposed the moratorium so it could take time to consider changes to city rules about the carts, said Murray Assistant City Administrator Phillip Hill.

City officials have become concerned with issues such as the cleanliness and aesthetics of the food stands. The council may decide to ban new stands or enact spacing requirements and business license restrictions, Hill said. The process is likely to take months.

A vote on the proposal will take place during a 7 p.m. meeting at City Hall, 655 W. Center Street. The agenda item is not a public hearing, but residents will be allowed to comment at the beginning of the session.
