I would like to respond to the letter from Kristina Jensen, titled "Marriage a sacred word" (Readers' Forum, Nov. 19) in which she states, "It is the word marriage that is at stake, not rights." I couldn't agree more.
Why not call a gay marriage "pairage"? It is my understanding that civil unions now include the same legal benefits as marriage; so it would seem that pairage, also with legal benefits, would be a win-win solution to this whole confrontational mess.
We seem to be quarreling as if one child has a piece of candy that another child covets. Why not provide a second piece of candy?
