PROVO — The BYU women's basketball team hosts Southern Utah tonight (7) at the Marriott Center.

Though the Cougars are coming off of a 49-point loss to No. 1 UConn, coach Jeff Judkins is confident that the experience will help his players.

"This team still has fire. This was a good thing for us to get better," Judkins said after BYU fell, 96-47, to the Huskies on Tuesday. "That's why we scheduled this game, to get better and realize what we have to aim for. Sometimes a loss like this is better than beating a team that is not as good. You can really find out what our team is all about."

The Thunderbirds are 1-3 after logging their first victory of the season Tuesday — a 75-61 home win over Idaho State. Anne Higbee led the way for SUU with a game-high 17 points.

The Cougars played well in the first half against top-ranked UConn, but could not keep up in the second half. Guard Mindy Nielson scored a team-high 14 points and Meilani Moeaki added 10 and Coriann Wood chipped in nine.
