OREM — Four men who police say gutted several Hondas parked in an Orem man's driveway were caught red- and greasy-handed.
Around 3 a.m. Saturday morning, a neighbor in the area of 1200 N. 200 East in Orem called police to report that individuals seemed to be carrying heavy items from a nearby home to their van, said Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards.
As police officers pulled up, their headlights illuminated four men and a van full of auto parts, Edwards said.
One man told police the auto parts had always been in the car — and despite his grease-covered hands and clothes — told the officer they had just come from a dance.
Another man realized that story wouldn't hold and told the officer they had taken the transmission, radiator, manifolds and more from the nearby home, Edwards said.
The owner was able identify the nearly $5,000 worth of parts as his, from his several Honda Civic cars parked in his driveway, Edwards said.
All four men were arrested and booked into the Utah County jail for investigation of theft.
