Salt Lake police were looking Friday for a man who said he needed help with a bomb that was in his car.
The man knocked on the door of a house near 850 North and 900 West about 10:30 p.m. He said he was looking for a mechanic to help him with a bomb that was in his car, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Robin Snyder.
The people inside said they were not mechanics and called police after the man left.
An officer checking the area found the car abandoned a short distance away on 900 West with the passenger door open, she said. A bomb sniffing dog from the Salt Lake City Airport was sent to the scene and the area blocked off, Snyder said.
No explosive device was found. The car was impounded by authorities. Investigators also went to the address to whom the car was registered but no one answered, she said.
