SPANISH FORK — A 6-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car Saturday afternoon while she and her sister tried to cross an intersection at 200 E. 800 North.

The girl's identity has not been released since not all family members have been notified of the death, Spanish Fork Police Lt. Steve Adams said.

About 1:30 p.m., the girl and her 8-year-old sister attempted to cross 800 North to get to the north side of the intersection. "The children were described as standing on the corner of the street, hesitating to cross and then running across the roadway," Adams said of witness accounts.

A sport utility vehicle driven by a 35-year-old Springville woman who police did not name struck the girl at 25-30 miles an hour, Adams said. Police administered CPR to the girl. She was transported to Payson Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead.

The accident remains under investigation, Adams said.
