MADRID, Spain — Aschwin Wildeboer has broken the men's 100-meter backstroke world record at the Spanish short-course championships.

The Spaniard's time of 49.20 seconds Sunday was .13 faster than the mark set by Stanislav Donets of Russia last week in Rijeka, Croatia.
