So now "compassion" and "charity" are apparently all the rage in Utah. I have no argument with these ideals, but for once I'd like for people to be compassionate and charitable with their money ... not mine. Every time I hear about being compassionate and charitable these days, it seems to involve involuntary confiscation of private assets so the enlightened ones can distribute our resources.

Call me old-fashioned, uncaring and maybe even unholy — but I'd like the option of voluntarily supporting various groups and individuals — not having my participation become mandatory and cycled through the socialistic bureaucracy.
