Two teenagers claiming to be the ones caught in surveillance video released last week by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office in connection with a robbery and shooting have stepped forward.
But the teens say they didn't have anything to do with the robbery and investigators are now determining what, if any, role they had in the crime.
On Jan. 15 a man met young women at Fat Cats Bowling Center, 3739 S. 900 East, and gave them his phone number. Later that night, they called the man and went to his East Millcreek house. About 2:45 a.m. a second man showed up wearing a ski mask, pistol whipped the homeowner and then shot him in the shoulder while the teens rummaged through the house.
Last week, the sheriff's office released pictures taken from Fat Cats' security surveillance camera showing two females charging a cell phone.
The sheriff's office has confirmed that two girls stepped forward claiming to be the ones in the picture, but they denied any involvement in the robbery.
Investigators Tuesday were interviewing the girls and re-interviewing the victim, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Paul Jaroscak. "We want to clear this up as quickly as possible," he said.
Investigators had received numerous calls as of Tuesday from people claiming to know the identities of the women in the video.
