Two young women who claimed they were in a surveillance video released by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office as possible suspects in a shooting and robbery have been cleared by investigators. But detectives weren't sure Wednesday if the girls were actually the ones seen in the video.
On Jan. 15, a man met two young women at Fat Cats Bowling Center, 3739 S. 900 East and gave them his phone number. They called the man later that night and went to his East Millcreek home. A short time after they arrived, another man wearing a ski mask arrived with a gun, pistol whipped and shot the homeowner in the shoulder while the women rummaged through the house.
The sheriff's office recently released surveillance video from Fat Cats showing two women charging a cell phone near the restrooms. Investigators believed the women might be the ones who set up the victim.
Shortly after the video was distributed to the media, two women stepped forward saying they were the ones on the tape, but that they had nothing to do with the robbery.
Wednesday, the sheriff's office announced they had confirmed the women were not responsible for the crime.
Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Paul Jaroscak said, however, that the detective who interviewed the girls was not positive they are actually the ones on the tape. The girls are convinced it's them, he said. Callers to the sheriff's office have identified several different people, Jaroscak said.
