Frank M. Smith
A Life of Dedicated Service
Our beloved son, husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and great grandfather, Frank M. Smith, left this world with peace and dignity on Feb 14th, 2008. He was born on Dec 13, 1933 to Inez Foutch and James William Smith in Laramie, Wyoming.
In 1951 Frank entered the US Air Force and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal). He served in Korea and three tours in Viet Nam. Along the way he acquired three Bronze Stars and numerous other awards.
Upon his retirement with the Air Force, he joined the Salt Lake City Police Department and worked with Chief Earl Jones. In 1974 he joined the Salt Lake County Sheriffs office and finished out a 20 years career in Law Enforcement. He worked in numerous departments within the Sheriffs office. His favorite by far was the years he spent in the K-9 Corp. He and his partner Bandit had a long and loving relationship.
Frank retired from the S.O, in
1991 with the rank of Sergeant. After a year of "vacation" he was rehired to work with the Reserve Corp. He then became part of the Training Division and was in that capacity at his passing.
Frank married La Donna Schultz in 1952. She passed away in 1985. In 1992 he married Jo Anne Stinar. He is survived by his mother; his wife; half brothers, Bill (Virginia) Smith, and Don (Terri) Smith of Wyoming, children, Debi Smith, Denise (Mike) Laughlin and Bill Smith; step-children, Teri (Matt) Miller and Mike Stinar. He has eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday, Feb 21st at 11 a.m. at Memorial Estates Chapel, 3115 E 7800 So. A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Deputy Sheriffs Mutual Aid Assoc. P.O Box 651266, Salt Lake City, Utah 84165.
