William Fredrick White
1905 ~ 2008
William Fredrick White passed away on Feb. 17, 2008 at the age of 102 Years, 6 months and 28 days.He was born in Smithfield, Cache County, Utah on July 20, 1905 to Walter Henry White and Annie Elizabeth Thornley.
He married Alta Pricilla Allen on December 3, 1924 in the Logan Temple. She died in 1979.
He married Myrtle Alverda Larson (Peggy) on April 4, 1980 in the Salt Lake Temple. She died on October 15, 2005.
During his life he lived in Smithfield, Utah, Salt lake City, Utah Garfield, Utah, St. George, Utah and Las Vegas, Nevada.
He worked most of his life as a wood pattern maker for American Foundry and Machine Company.
He was an artist in working with wood, stone and sand. He invented and built most of his own machinery for rock work. He was proud to be a lifetime member of the "Utah Treasure Club"
During his last few years he has made hats on a knitting ring which he gave to all of his descendants. He has donated hats to the homeless shelter in Salt Lake and other humanitarian groups. He has made well over 500 hats since he was 99 years old. He always liked to keep busy.
He loved to be in the outdoors to hike, fish and hunt. Logan, and Smithfield, canyons were some of his favorite places as well as the Mirror Lake area and Yellowstone Park.
He was always active in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities including many years as scoutmaster and later as a Temple worker in the Las Vegas Temple.
He leaves behind a great legacy.
He is survived by six children, William H. White (Elsa), Bluffdale, UT; Irl Allen White (Myrna), Sandy City, UT; Chad Brixon White
(Suzanne) Colorado Springs, CO; Sterling John White Layton, UT; Sandra June Langford (Bud) Salt Lake City, UT; Walter Valdon White (Marilyn), Midvale, UT. 36 grandchildren, 122 great-grandchildren, 81 great-great grandchildren.
Also surviving are three stepchildren from his marriage to Peggy, Dick Houlihan, Cathy (Rennie) Tejeda, Colleen Paige, and Ralph (Claudia) Jackson and their children and grandchildren who also knew him as Grandpa White.
Preceded in death by his two spouses, one daughter Alta Faye Marley and her husband Heber Duane Marley. One daughter-in-law Colleen White, one step-daughter, Sheila Jackson, two grandchildren, two great-grandsons and one great-great grandson.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 22, 2008 at 12 Noon at Canyon Rim 2nd Ward, 3100 E. 3000 S. Friends and family may visit on Thurs. from 6-8 p.m. at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E. and also one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment at Redwood Memorial Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Road.
The family wishes to express thanks to the Care Source Hospice Staff for their help and care during his last two years, also his daughter and her husband June and Bud Langford whose home he shared for the last four years.
