Vaughn Ray Angell

1955 ~ 2008

Feb. 3, 2008, Vaughn passed away peacefully from natural causes. He left behind his long hard struggle to be in God's loving care. He was born to Clara Dee Phibbs Angell and Vaughn Marvin Angell on Jan. 30, 1955 at the Naval Hospital in Barstow, California.

Vaughn was diagnosed at a very young age to be totally deaf. He was educated in several schools for deaf children but primarily at the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind in Ogden, Utah. He loved to play basketball and excelled in art while in school. His formal education ended at 15 years of age when he became mentally ill. Most of his adult life, Vaughn was a patient at the Utah State Hospital in Provo, Utah where he was well cared for. For one period of a few years, he lived in Green Gables (Group Home) in Salt Lake. During that time, he became a member of The Alliance House, where he experienced some of the happiest times of his adult life.

Vaughn was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Carl Angell, Ray C. Phibbs and Clara Dee Phibbs Richardson. He is survived by parents, Clayton I and Clara Dee Ek; brother, Mark (Liz); nephew Ethan and niece Emily Angell, Gig Harbor, WA; also survived by brother, Kelly Angell, sister-in-law, Claresa Angell; nephew Alex and niece Lauryn Angell, Salt Lake City; aunts and uncles, Gayle and Gayle Knight, Ray Gary and Barbara Phibbs.

Vaughn's family would like to thank the wide variety of people who have shown concern and contributed to his care for many years.

A memorial service to celebrate Vaughn's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at The Cottonwood Club, 1780 E. Lakewood Dr. (5400 S.) Visitation at 11 a.m., followed by the memorial at 11:30 a.m.
