Marilyn Irene Michelsen Nestman

1929 ~ 2008

Our beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, Marilyn Irene Michelsen Nestman was granted the rest she'd been seeking on Sunday, February 17, 2008.Though diminished in her physical capacities for the last 30 years of her life, she was nonetheless a tower of emotional and sprititual strength to her family. She endured her trials with amazing dignity and without complaint. Her example will remain with us always.

The eldest of two daughters, Marilyn was born September 3, 1929, to Elmer Golden and Harriet Irene Welch Michelsen. Her fun-loving attitude and sense of humor made her a joy to be around. She once said, "I think I was born happy, and I'm so grateful for that". She spent her early years in California. Following high school graduation she returned to Utah. In 1950, a young returned missionary Lothar caught her eye, and her world changed forever. They were married September 15, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Theirs was a true romance that lasted for the next 57 years. Lothar's great love for Marilyn was evident in the tender and patient way he cared for her for so long. Five remarkable sons blessed this union, and Marilyn spent countless hours teaching, playing with, and loving them. They, and their families, were the center of her existence. She shared her testimony and love of the gospel with all within reach, and created a home where love, loyalty, and the important lessons of life were taught. Her selflessness was unmatched and she served willingly and well in her ward for many years. Marilyn had scores of wonderful friends, all of whom would agree that they were blessed to have known her. Words can't express how much she'll be missed, but we take comfort in knowing that she was prepared in every way to move on. Finally, she will be able to do those things she has missed for so long. We love you, mom - may God be with you 'til we meet again!

Survivors include: husband, Lothar; sons and their wives, Lo (Janyce), Randy (Sandra), Mark (Cindy), Paul (Beth), Gary (Brooke), her loving sister Muriel Hale; three nephews and one niece. She has 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
