Upon Nicks return home, he went to visit a sweet little Greek girl whom he knew from his youth and who had written him during the war years. He chased her until she caught him and he and his darling Sophie Pappas were married shortly there after. They lived in San Francisco for seven years and returned to Salt Lake City in 1956. Nick was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #3 for his post war years, working on many road, bridge and dam projects in his much loved state of Utah. He moved to Oregon in 1997 to be closer to his daughter's family and finding a whole new community to share his stories with. He is preceded in death by his wife Sophie, His parents, Petro and Rose Mastoris, and sisters Georgia Soulis and Katherine Mastoris.

He is survived by his sister Tula Lee, daughter Rosann Winther, son-in-law Paul, granddaughter Kirstin Jewell and great-granddaughter Miranda Jewell, and his much loved cat Rosie. Nick was also blessed with the love of many wonderful brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and their families.
