James C. Batey

1928 ~ 2008

Jim was born on Sept. 16, 1928 to Claude Batey and Margaret Barton, in St. George, Utah. His siblings are Max (deceased), Jay, George, and Nell Ann (deceased).

He graduated from South High, attended U of U for two years, and was in the Marine Corps for four years at the end of World War II. He retired from Gibbons & Reed Construction Co. after 25 years of service. After his retirement he worked for UDOT, Workman Const. and was currently working at Morgan Excavation.

On Nov. 1953, Jim married Lucy Jimenez and they had four children: Janice, Randy, Susan and Thomas. Lucy and Jim divorced after their kids were raised and he met and married his love, Beverly Nielson Denning. He acquired a second family: Carey, Nancy, Christine, and Paige.

CO; Marcus Bernal, OR; Stephani Peterson, Salt Lake City, UT; Carter Peterson, Salt Lake City, UT and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 23, 2008, 2 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave. 'N' Street. A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple Friday 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 12-1:30 p.m. Online condolences at larkincares.com
