Horace Rodney "Rod" Brough
1924 ~ 2008
Rod Brough passed away on February 19, 2008, following complications due to heart surgery. Rod was born in a basement bedroom at 175 West 100 North, Bountiful, on October 9, 1924. Rod was the seventh child out of 10 children and was the only son of Horace and Martha Phippen Brough. He was reared and lived in Bountiful his entire life.
Rod was well known and respected for his building and woodworking skills. He joined his father in construction at age six where together they completed 26 LDS chapels and numerous homes and businesses. Additionally, they remodeled the Bountiful Tabernacle on three separate occasions including replacing the Tabernacle spires in 1955. In 1959, he began Brough Construction, Inc. and in 1980 he started Brough Mantles. Rod thoroughly loved his work and went to his shop daily up until the time of his death. Rod enjoyed several hobbies which included traveling, rock hounding, coin collecting, bowling, reading, woodworking, making children's toys and creating wall plaques. He was Jaycee President in 1954 and 1955 and was president of the Bountiful Bowl Major's League for over 10 years.
Rod is survived by his beautiful wife, Alma, to whom he was married for 62 1/2 years. He is also survived by his six children, James Brough (Jan), Denver, CO; Tom Brough (Kathy), Port Angeles, WA; Bettie Turman (Greg), Bountiful; Mary Patterson (Al), Montgomery, AL; Carrie Knickerbocker (Knick), Gilbert, AZ; John Brough (Gena), Bountiful; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grand
children, and two siblings, Bernice Hunter and Dixie Hansen.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 and Saturday from 12:45-1:45 prior to services. Interment - Bountiful City Cemetery.
