OREM — The Utah Valley State men's basketball team's six-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday on the road as Savannah State topped the Wolverines 61-46.

UVSC's point total was its lowest of the season.

Ryan Toolson scored a game-high 18 points, with two other Wolverines — Jordan Brady and Richard Troyer — scoring in double figures with 10 points each.

Savannah State took over in the second half after leading 26-25 at the break — finishing the half on a 7-1 run.

A 15-0 run after the break propelled the Tigers to victory, with Savannah State taking an 18-point lead at one point.

Raye Bailey led a balanced Tigers offense with 13 points. Lazarius Coleman and Joseph Flegler had 12 points apiece.

UVSC returns home to finish out the season with a two-game homestand that begins with a matchup against NJIT Saturday at 2 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Several Wolverines picked up various honors in the past week.

Robyn Fairbanks was named Division I Independent Player of the Week for the fifth time this season and 13th time in her collegiate career.

Averaging 21.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in two games last week — paced by shooting 73.1 percent from the field — Fairbanks led the Wolverines to two straight wins.

Fairbanks also was one of six UVSC players to be named to the Division I Independent All-Academic team. Hollie Beaman, Sandy Marvin, Rebekah Peterson, Blake Reynolds and Lauren Smith also received the academic honors.

UVSC takes on NJIT on Thursday and Chicago State on Saturday in the team's last road games of the season.

The Wolverines took eight of the 10 matches — including three forfeits — against Mesa State last Friday en route to a 38-7 win.

Ben Kjar won his NCAA Division leading 38th match after pinning Mesa State's Jason Blasdel with 31 seconds left in the first period in the 125-pound bout.

UVSC beat Portland State 35-9 on Monday to close out the season. The Wolverines also won eight of the 10 matches in the meet.

Ashley MacKay finished a team-high 37th, and Echo Thatcher had a 48th-place result.

UVSC peppered the Broncos in both games in getting 9-5 win Friday and a 9-2 victory on Saturday.
