KATELYN BATEMAN
Payson Lions
Sport: Girls basketball
Class: Junior
Position: Forward
The numbers: Payson failed to make the playoffs, but the Lions sure made things interesting by winning four of their final six games — which gives the team a lot of optimism for next year. During that streak no Payson player was hotter than Bateman, especially from outside. She scored 24 and hit four treys against Tooele, then came back with 20 and four 3-pointers versus Timpview. Her best game was a 27-point, three-trey game in a win over Mountain View. In the final six games, she averaged almost 20 points and three 3-pointers per game.
JASON CHAMBERLAIN
Springville Red Devils
Sport: Wrestling
Class: Senior
Position: 140 pounds
The numbers: Chamberlain has been honored many times, but the way he finished his prep career is worthy of honor again. The Red Devils grappler is the top-ranked wrestler in his weight class in the nation. A ranking like that almost makes winning his fourth straight region title and fourth straight state title as routine accomplishments. Chamberlain did not lose a match this season and dominated throughout the year. He will leave Springville undoubtedly as the school's and state's top wrestlers of all time. For the next four years, he'll be wrestling for Boise State University.
