Utah Division of Wildlife Resources conservation officer Matt Burgess, left, holds the antlers of an elk that fell through the ice near First Dam in Logan Tuesday. The elk was in the water for about two hours. State wildlife officers in a boat grabbed the antlers to keep his head above water. The elk was too tired to walk when he reached shore, so officers tied his legs and carried him to a trailer on a tarp. The elk was transported to a large herd in the Cache Valley after his antlers were trimmed. Some bystanders say the rescue took too long. But Burgess says the team responded as quickly as possible.
