TENNIS: The BYU men's tennis team is off to its best start in eight years after the Cougars beat Azusa Pacific 6-1 Monday. No. 1 singles was BYU's only blemish on the scorecard. Up next the Cougars travel to take on the University of Denver on Saturday.
LACROSSE: At Whittier, Calif., the BYU Cougars (1-2) lost an overtime thriller to the Whittier Poets (2-0) 15-14 Monday night on Graham Field.
VOLLEYBALL: All-American senior middle blocker Russell Holmes was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week Tuesday as the No. 1 BYU men's volleyball team prepares to host No. 9 Stanford Friday and Saturday at the Smith Fieldhouse.
INDOOR TRACK: Kyle Perry earned his third Mountain West Conference Athlete of the Week honor this season after his national qualifying time in the men's 3,000-meter run on Saturday at the Husky Classic in Seattle.
GOLF: The BYU men's team sits tied for 17th place after one round at the Burns Intercollegiate, with freshman Esteban Calisto leading the Cougars tied for 30th place at 1-under-par.
Utah
GOLF: The Utes' Dustin Pimm finished Wednesday tied for ninth at 3-under-par at the Burns Intercollegiate in Honolulu. Nic Larson and Chance Cota sit at one-over, and both players are tied for 56th place. Utah is tied for 17th place at 3-over-par.
MEN'S TENNIS: The Utes defeated Idaho State 7-0 on Wednesday night at the Eccles Tennis Center.
Weber State
INDOOR TRACK: Weber State junior Morgan Haws of Kaysville has been named the Big Sky Conference women's track co-athlete of the week for her performance in the 5,000 meters last weekend at the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle. She posted a career-best time of 16:36.04 to finish in fourth place. It ranks as the 12th-best time in the nation this season.
Dixie State
SOFTBALL: Dixie State's Haley Schumers was named PacWest's pitcher of the week. Schumers, who was the player of the week last week, posted a 2-1 mark in Phoenix by tossing three complete games and one shutout. In 21 innings of work, she struck out 21, allowed four earned runs, posted a 1.33 ERA.
Southern Utah
SOFTBALL: Southern Utah pitchers held Arizona State to eight hits Monday afternoon, but six of them went for extra bases, including three home runs, as the fourth-ranked Sun Devils took a 9-3 win from the Thunderbirds. With the loss the Thunderbirds drop to 3-7 overall.
GOLF: SUU's Matt McArthur has been named this week's Summit League Player of the Week following his play at the Rice Invitational Monday and Tuesday. McArthur finished one shot behind medalist Amrith de Soysa of Louisiana Tech.
BASEBALL: SUU opens the season this weekend in Las Vegas against Central Michigan. The Thunderbirds will follow up the game with a Monday matinee at Dixie State College.
Utah State
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: USU (7-16, 3-8 WAC) will host Nevada (18-7, 9-3 WAC) tonight on "Think Pink Night," part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association "Cancer Awareness Weekend." All fans attending the game are encouraged to wear pink as a show of support for the brave individuals battling cancer. The $5 admission charge for adults, $1 for children will be waived for anyone wearing pink to the game. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum (10,270).
In addition to "Think Pink Night," fans are encouraged to participate in "Quilts For The Cure." Fans are encouraged to make and bring quilts to donate. The donated quilts will be given away to those affected by breast cancer. The recipients of the quilts will be announced in the second half.
Utah Valley
GOLF: Utah Valley shot a final-round 313 and finished in third place, five shots behind host Drake, at the Carlton Oaks Invitational in Santee, Calif.
