ROOSEVELT — A Salt Lake couple is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of people who did an estimated $200,000 in damage to their Duchesne County vacation cabin.
Michael and Holly Uzelac's multimillion-dollar cabin near Fruitland was broken into sometime between Feb. 5 and 9, according to Duchesne County Sheriff's Lt. Travis Tucker. The intruders gained access through a garage window, then used a shovel to break down a door in the garage.
Tucker said that, once inside, the vandals used the shovel to destroy windows, furniture and televisions. Several of the sinks in the cabin were broken, as well, and water was left running in one of the sinks. Tucker said the cabin's main floor and basement suffered extensive water damage.
"The inside was just completely trashed," the lieutenant said, adding that the cabin "was almost so beat up, it was work."
After being notified of the break-in, Tucker said, sheriff's deputies on snowmobiles checked on other cabins in the area. None of those cabins showed any signs of entry or vandalism.
Investigators collected some physical evidence inside the Uzelacs' cabin, but recent snow and high winds erased any evidence outside the cabin.
Tucker said sheriff's detectives were in Salt Lake City today following up on leads in the case.
Anyone with information on the crime should contact the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office at 435-738-2015.
