James Day
"Anchors Aweigh Dad"
James Day, son of Elmer Lyman Day and Anna Laurie Brunson Day, born May 6, 1921 in Fillmore, Utah, died February 2, 2008 at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah after a courageous battle with cancer. His family expresses gratitude to the many individuals who provided kind and compassionate care.
Jim attended Millard High School, graduating in 1939. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the south sea islands of New Hebrides, New Caledonia, and Guadalcanal. He served an LDS mission in Northern California from 1946 to 1948. There he met his wife Evelyn Mae Haslam whom he married September 13, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Together they raised eight children: James (Kathryn Holt), Steven (Kimberly Romano), Nancy (Roger Sharp), David, Ronald (Mava Jones), Marianne (James Larsen), Howard (Grace Pacleb), and Daniel (Junko Hirose). Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
James also completed a BA at the University of Utah in pharmacy. He worked for Pfizer, A. H. Robbins, and eventually owned and managed the Kolob Drug Store. He and his wife served a mission to England Manchester in 1986. He was a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings, testifying often of its truthfulness to his posterity.
Viewings will be held Thursday, February 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr. and Friday, February 8, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Winder 6th Ward chapel, 4366 South 1500 East prior to funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the LDS perpetual education fund, LDS missionary fund, or Huntsman Cancer Institute.
