How did the Legislature get away with spending $2.5 million of ongoing monies to place computers and software in homes of preschool children so they could be ready for kindergarten? Sitting a 3- or 4-year-old in front of a computer is not only age-inappropriate — it is spending limited tax dollars that should have been spent on reducing class size or increasing funds for school counselors.

I find it troubling that HB200 was placed on the priority list by leadership, then wrapped into an omnibus bill that carefully protected bills so they could not be debated on their own merit. Perhaps we should review the good old-fashioned and inexpensive method of reading and spending time with our kids.
