Adults facing economic, social or physical challenges who are looking to improve their situation through education are eligible to win scholarships through the Adult Student in Scholastic Transition program.
This annual award is provided by Salt Lake-based Executive Women International, a nonprofit international professional association.
Local chapters of EWI partner with educational providers and social services agencies to identify potential candidates for the scholarships. Students first apply and compete at the local chapter levels, where award levels vary. Chapter-level winners are submitted to the corporate level for the opportunity to be selected for one of 12 additional $2,500 scholarships.
The ASIST award is available for socially, physically and/or economically disadvantaged adults, displaced homemakers and/or heads-of-household who are responsible for small children or disabled or elderly adults. The need-based award can be used for tuition or other education-related expenses.
Details about the Salt Lake Chapter scholarships are available by calling Melanie Quintana at 801-748-3353 or visiting www.saltlakecityewi.org. The application deadline is April 30.
