Recession is tied to war

SHARE Recession is tied to war

I just read "Turmoil raises fears of deep recession" (March 22). I have read several articles covering this information from various news sources. Of the ones that have mentioned the GDP "slow-downs" after World War II, 1973-75, 1981-82 and 1990-91, none have even mentioned what these dates coincide with. The 1973-75 recession occurred also in conjunction with the end of the Vietnam War. The 1981-82 recession came at the end of the Cold War. And 1990-91 was the exact time of the Gulf War. Does no one else see the coincidence here? We are five years into a war and heading for a recession. Should we really be all that surprised?
