Park City standout Lauren Deane has committed to play basketball for Weber State University next year.
"I went on an unofficial visit there in August and I just looked at my mom and said, 'This is home,"' said Deane, who is a versatile forward who can also handle the ball and shoot from long range.
Unfortunately the Wildcats didn't have a scholarship for her position at the time. When one came open last week, they offered it to Deane, who quickly accepted.
"The girls were really great, and as a player I value playing hard," she said. "I also really value honesty with my coaches, and they were honest and told me (in August) they didn't have a scholarship for a four."
Deane, a four-sport athlete and honor student, was considering other out-of-state offers when Weber coaches called. Her club basketball coach Kara Harrison said the Wildcats are getting a talented and committed player.
"She's a multi-faceted player, and in addition to her actual talent, there is never a kid that works as hard as she does," Harrison said. "She gives it all; she's just gritty."
Deane averaged nearly 16 points per game this season.
