Betty Alcyone Heaps Sheffield

"Still Dancing"

Betty Alcyone Heaps Sheffield, born May 13, 1923 took her final, peaceful breath February 28, 2008, surrounded by members of her loving family. She was the daughter of Seldon Noel Heaps and Minnie Alcyone (Bunny) Roberts Heaps.

Betty married Dean Wilmer Sheffield on July 2, 1942 in Tucson, AZ. Their union was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She now dances in his loving arms. Betty leaves behind six children, Richard (Cheryl), Patricia (Mark) Smasal, Bob (Sherille), Peggy (Scott) Lilja, Kevin (Stefanie), and James. She was loving grandmother to 15, grandmother-in-law to 8, and great-grandmother to 5.

Betty loved music, dance, shoes, theater and travel. She delighted in her family, and will forever remain our touchstone. She found great delight being actively engaged in activities with her many friends and neighbors, whom she valued greatly. She remained connected to her former daughter-in-law, Fiona, and loved their shopping experiences. She left on her own terms, just as she had anticipated and insisted she would.

Her family will miss her greatly, and thank all who have shown their love and compassion over the years, particularly her wonderful neighbors and cousin, Gary. Thank you also to the medical professionals at University MICU for the respect you gave Betty.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley View 6th Ward, 2000 East 3900 South.
