The man charged with killing a popular Utah Valley State College hockey coach outside a Sandy Village Inn restaurant made his first court appearance Monday.

Eugene Christopher Wright, 32, is charged with first-degree felony murder. Wright is accused of shooting and killing Kenneth Dolezsar in the parking lot of Village Inn, 150 W. 10600 South, on Nov. 15. Wright was arrested Thursday.

Wright appeared in West Jordan's 3rd District Monday morning via video from the Salt Lake County Jail. He was advised of the charges against him. Wright indicated he would be retaining defense attorney Ed Brass to represent him.

His next scheduled court appearance is March 10. His bail remained at $2.5 million.
