MEN'S TENNIS: The Cougars battled through sickness and physical exhaustion to come away with back-to-back wins against Cal Poly and Montana State on Friday. The Cougars narrowly defeated Cal Poly 4-3 in the first match of the day, followed by a strong 6-1 victory over Montana State.

INDOOR TRACK: Carlee Clark-Platt ran a career best in the 800-meter run, which positions her nicely for a bid into the NCAA Championships. She finished third in her heat and ran a 2:06.41, a national provisional mark. Angela Wagner ran in the mile where she set a career-best time of 4:40.44.

On the men's side, Dustin Bybee competed in the mile and finished with a time of 4:03.91.

The NCAA Indoor National Championships start on Thursday in Fayetteville, Ark.

BASEBALL: Dan Vargas hit a seeing-eye single in the eighth inning Saturday to score Andrew Law and help lift BYU to an 11-8 victory over UC Davis in Davis, Calif.

Vargas also hit two doubles and a solo homer in BYU's finale against co-host Cal-Davis in the River City Classic. But it was his single to bring in Law, who had doubled, which put BYU ahead for good with a 9-8 lead. Law leads the team with a current six-game hitting streak. BYU posted a 2-2 record in the River City Classic. Now BYU readies for its home opener on Tuesday when it hosts Utah Valley on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
