LONDON — Barnsley jolted defending champion Chelsea 1-0, and Portsmouth won 1-0 at Manchester United on a penalty kick in major upsets Saturday in the FA Cup quarterfinals.

Kayode Odejayi scored on a 66th-minute header for Barnsley. The League Championship club won 2-1 at Liverpool earlier in the tournament. Barnsley is only four points above the relegation zone in the league immediately below the Premier League and could drop to League One next season.

Having beaten two of English soccer's heavyweights, Barnsley earned a place in FA Cup semifinals at Wembley Stadium. The last time it got this far was in 1912 when it went on to win the famed trophy.
