BOSTON — Marco Sturm scored the second of Boston's two 5-on-3 power-play goals late in the third period to lift the Bruins to a 2-1 win over the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

Donald Brashear got a double-minor for high-sticking and roughing on the same play. John Erskine was called for hooking 1:13 later and Tom Poti was sent off for slashing in the final 6:41 to set up an extended two-man advantage.

Boston tied it on Zdeno Chara's goal with 5:01 to play, and Sturm's winner came with 2:16 remaining to snap the Bruins' three-game losing streak.

The Capitals grabbed a 1-0 lead when Brooks Laich scored 6:17 into the game.

CANADIENS 5, KINGS 2: At Los Angeles, Patrice Brisebois triggered a three-goal second period for Montreal, and Jaroslav Halak made 35 saves in his first start of the season.

AVALANCHE 3, STARS 1: At Denver, Peter Forsberg posted his first two points since rejoining the Avalanche and Colorado won its sixth straight by beating stumbling Dallas.

HURRICANES 4, SABRES 3, OT: At Raleigh, N.C., Scott Walker deflected in a shot from Eric Staal in overtime.
