Rosemary Summers Collins
9/19/1921 ~ 4/11/2008
Rosemary Summers Collins, our strong and noble wife, mother, and grandmother endured faithfully to the end of her sojourn here. Our grief is only lessened by knowing this dear lady is with her Savior. Rosemary passed away quietly on April 11, 2008.
She was born on September 19, 1921 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Dewey Leslie Summers and Viola Violet Crichfield. At age 21, she moved to Salt Lake City, UT to marry Walter LeGrande Collins in the Salt Lake Temple on November 25, 1942. This began a 65 year union that resulted in a great posterity. LeGrande and Rosemary have six children, Walter L. Collins II (Peggy), Alan L Collins (Tamara), Rebecca D. Blatnick, Pamela G. Slade (Jim), Teresa A. Young (Mark),
Jeffrey L. Collins (Cherry), 32 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren (4 more coming), and one great great-grandchild (two more coming). Rosemary is also
survived by her brother, Dewey L. Summers; and three sisters, Vennadel Pierce, Doris Piserchia, and Jane Carney. Preceded in death by brother, Bill Summers.
Rosemary was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While living in her place of birth, as a young woman, she served in many positions in her branch. After coming west, she
continued her church activity as a Sunday School Teacher, Stake
Missionary, Relief Society Teacher, Primary Worker, and Relief Society President. From 1985 to 1987, Rosemary served with her husband in the California Los Angeles Mission and later they served for 16 years as Temple Workers in the Jordan River Temple Baptistery. She was an avid reader and as a student of the Gospel, Rosemary had a great understanding of its doctrine and was willing to share what she knew to be true.
