Kudos to the Deseret News for the editorial cartoon by Henry Payne on April 15. It is a-maze-ing what one can stumble through when trying to follow the "instructions" of the IRS code. It's absolutely Pavlovian to require us to go through the steps of adding, subtracting and multiplying without even a clue as to why. Former President-to-be Jimmy Carter said more than 30 years ago that our tax system is a disgrace to the human race. The Government Accountability Office claims the federal government loses about $200 billion annually to noncompliance with the tax code. It is just another of the perplexing national problems we are passing on to our children and grandchildren.
