• The Sutherland Institute is sponsoring several presentations and discussions April 22-25 in Salt Lake City. Information can be found at www.sutherlandinstitute.org/earth.asp.

• Utah Rivers Council will kick off its water conservation campaign April 24, 1:30 p.m., at the Salt Lake City Main Library, 210 E. 400 South. This year's campaign is titled "Tour Your Toilet," with free advice on how to make sure your toilet isn't wasting water.

• Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert will hold an Arbor Day ceremony April 22, 10 a.m., at the state Capitol Building (northwest corner). There will be a tree planting on the corner of 500 North and Columbus and a ceremony in front of three preserved giant sequoia trees. For information visit www.arborday.utah.gov.

• Weber State University is hosting a week of Earth Day activities, including a demonstration of how many items in a typical trash can are recyclable and a screening of the documentary "11th Hour" about the state of the global environment. Call 801-791-2054 for information.
