Family:Born Jan. 24, 1945, in American Fork, Utah, to Paul V. and Jeanne Swenson Christofferson; reared in Pleasant Grove, Utah, and New Brunswick, N.J., the eldest of five sons. Married Katherine Thelma Jacob in the Salt Lake Temple on May 28, 1968. Parents of five children: Todd (Rainey); Brynn (Tom) Nufer; Peter (Brenda); Ryan (Lindsey); Michael.

Education: Earned bachelor's degree in English/international relations from BYU, juris doctorate from Duke University in Durham, N.C.

Employment: Associate general counsel of Nation's Bank Corp. (now Bank of America) in Charlotte, N.C.; former senior vice president and general counsel for Sovran Bank of Tennessee in Nashville; practiced law in Washington, D.C.; served as a law clerk to U. S. District Judge John J. Sirica in Washington.

Military service: Lieutenant and captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, 1971-79.

Community service: Actively involved in Scouting, recipient of the Silver Beaver Award; chairman of the Middle Tennessee Literacy Coalition; chairman of the Affordable Housing of Nashville; active in interfaith organizations in Nashville, Tenn., area.

Church service: Presidency of the Seventy; regional representative; stake president and counselor; bishop; stake mission president; high councilor; early morning seminary teacher; served in the Argentina North Mission, 1964-66.
