Ferrero advances at Monte Carlo

Former two-time champion Juan Carlos Ferrero beat Michael Llodra of France 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters on Monday.

Sam Querrey of the United States advanced by upsetting 10th-seeded Carlos Moya 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. Moya won both the Monte Carlo and French Open titles in 1998.
