I enjoy reading the Mormon Times almost as much as the Church News, and I especially enjoy Orson Card's column. However, I was taken aback by the vehemence of his attack on the different ways music is occasionally used in our sacrament meetings (April 5). The First Presidency has said, "Some of the greatest sermons are preached by the singing of hymns. Hymns move us to repentance and good works, build testimony and faith, comfort the weary, console the mourning, and inspire us to endure to the end."
I'm sorry that Brother Card's experience of having someone bear testimony through song was not a happy one. Mine have been just the reverse.
Thank you again for your delightful edition, and thank you, Orson Scott Card, for your thought-provoking articles.
