LAS VEGAS — For the fifth conecutive season, the Salt Lake Bees have opened their season with three straight wins, as they defeated the 51s 5-3 on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Sean Rodriguez snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth with a run scoring double and he later scored on a single by Freddy Sandoval. Las Vegas scored in the bottom of the sixth to pull to within a run, but Sandoval provided some insurance with a solo homer in the eighth inning. Sandoval had three hits and two runs batted in to lead the Bees, while Bobby Wilson added three hits and one RBI.

Shane Loux (1-0), who was making his first pitching appearance since 2006 with Omaha, earned the win as he allowed just three runs, one earned in five and two-third innings. The Salt Lake bullpen was outstanding as Henry Bonilla retired all seven batters he faced, while Jose Arredondo set the 51s down 1-2-3 in the ninth for his second save of the season.
