MONUMENT VALLEY — Authorities say a pilot survived the crash of a small plane in southeastern Utah near the Arizona border.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the single-engine plane crashed Monday near Nokai Dome, a mountain in San Juan County.

Speaking from Seattle, FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer says the plane departed from Durango, Colo. The pilot survived, but the FAA had no other information.

It was not immediately known if anyone else was on the plane, a Maule M-7-235C.
