Eighth-grader to attend literature competition

J.E. Cosgriff Memorial eighth-grader Lindy Hughes will represent Utah at the national Letters About Literature competition, a reading and writing competition sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

Student entrants write a letter to a book author, explaining how the author's work changed their perception of the world or themselves.

Hughes, who won Utah's middle school division, wrote to the author of "The Book Thief."

The national contest winner will receive a $500 gift card to Target stores and a $10,000 Reading Promotion Grant for her school's library.
