FARMINGTON — The Davis County Health Department plans to take seniors back in time with a senior gala featuring big band music.
Tickets are on sale now for the gala, to be held May 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Davis High School. But reservations must be made by Monday.
May is Older Americans Month, and the health department's Senior Services division is putting on its first major event celebrating Davis County's older residents.
Admission for the "senior prom," which includes dinner, is $5, and tickets can be purchased at the county's three senior centers, located in Bountiful, Kaysville and Centerville, and at the Davis County Health Department in Farmington.
Sally Kershisnik, Senior Services director, said Tuesday that the event is open to anyone age 50 or older and anyone who supports seniors or who would like to be a senior for the night.
"We want to see as many seniors come out and enjoy themselves with familiar music from their youth," said Kershisnik in a news release. "But it doesn't stop there. We encourage senior supporters to escort, and maybe even dance with, their favorite senior relative, friend or neighbor."
Davis High students, who transform into the Moonlight Orchestra, Moonlight Singers and Moonlight Dancers, will perform musical floor show during the gala.
Buses will be available at the county's senior centers to transport seniors to the gala. For those who drive to Davis High School, there will be assistants to escort seniors from the parking lot to the dance.
